Destruction Road

I have 11,000 word novelette. I recently went through a bunch of edits on it from a fellow author, gave it a new title, and a new name. Today my book is #48 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Religious & Inspirational Fiction > Christian > Mystery & Suspense on Amazon for free books. That's pretty exciting! It is a very narrow deep down category but it's still exciting to have a work at #48 of anything on Amazon. It's great exposure.

Dan Dan The Art Man's Book Reviews | Episode 39
The Passage by Justin Cronin

Download the .mp3

In this 39th episode I review The Passage by Justin Cronin. Listen to hear why I'm torn when it comes to this book. Some of the best fiction I've ever read in my entire life is contained in this novel, but at the same time there's a huge jolting shift in the story that left me bored and frustrated in the middle.

The Chimera Sequence by Elliott Garber | Book Review

This was an amazing book. It was intensely interesting, thrilling, and moving. There were some really touching scenes between gorillas and the people looking out for them. There were some heartfelt scenes between people who were really close to each other in tremendous circumstances. Even with all the smart well written science and action this book had heart. There were some more quiet scenes where doctors and scientists worked on figuring out just what was going on with these sick gorillas. There were also some great action scenes with awesome firefights.

I read this book by listening to the audiobook and I'm really glad I did. The narrator Neil Shah was amazing. His narration of the story alone was great but on top of that he flawlessly pulls of dozens of accents from all over the world. It made the story feel that much more large and exciting and cultured. I don't know how he's mastered so many accents but he uses his immense talent well narrating all the different characters in this book.

If you want to dig into some well written science, with awesome action, and cool well rounded characters you'll love to root for and against then do yourself a favor and pick this one up. I think you'll be as pleased as I was that you did.

The Bridge Crosser

My mom wrote a children's book! It's a touching story and now it's available!

Here's the synopsis:

The Bridge Crosser is a children's story of a boy named Tom who lived on a farm with his mother and father. Hard working Tom faces hardship with a stern mother and an accident involving his father. The story is layered with a series of dreams he experiences, a neighbor lady he encounters, and most of all a mysterious bridge that he finds at the edge of his property. The puzzle pieces fall together for this young man, bringing him into a whole new life.

The message of this book brings inspiration to children and adults. Walking through Tom's adventure causes the reader to correlate the lessons learned to their own lives. The captivating message written on the bridge relates to anyone who is seeking to find comfort, love, and a best friend.

Destruction Road

Old Cover
I wrote an 11,000 word novelette a long time ago. Then I reworked it a few times and sent it to my friend Tim Ward who was kind enough to edit it for me. Then it sat—for a long time. But I finally buckled down and went through my book again revising it with the help of his edits! I also noticed a few things that could really be improved upon while going through the story again years later. It is a much stronger book now. It used to be called "A Second Chance." The story is the same, but now it's called "Destruction Road" and I think it's a much better version.

I learned a lot going through Tim's edits! It was also really fun. Even though it was a lot of work and very time consuming I really enjoyed the process. Something surprised me about it too. As I read Tim's comments and saw his handiwork on my manuscript I kind of felt like we were hanging out—or at least corresponding. I can imagine authors with a regular editor are very thankful for them.

Tim is an awesome author. I recently finished his book Scavenger: Evolution. It was great! Check out more about Tim on his website and read his books because they're awesome! Here's an affiliate link for his book: Scavenger: Evolution: (Sand Divers, Book One)

Update on Sword and Urn - A Novella

I got the proof copy of my novella Sword and Urn. Man did it feel good to hold it in my hands. I posted the pictures above on Facebook and got some interest. There's still something about a physical book that seems to get people a lot more excited than an eBook you have for sale. I think this story needs one more revision pass so I'm going through it one more time. Then I'm going to send it to people for free as Advanced Reader Copies and use their feedback to try and squeeze out one more polishing revision pass. Then I'll put it for sale. I'm really excited about it! If you want to be one of these beta readers please just send me an email danabso[at]gmail[dot]com and I'll send you a copy once it's done! Thanks for stopping by, and I've already updated the cover since I got the paperback yesterday :) See it below.

CTRL ALT Revolt! by Nick Cole | Book Review

It took me a while to get into this novel because there is so much going on but once I was into it I loved it until the end. The more I read, the happier I was that I had decided to read this book. For fans of Ready Player One and Solarversia you're in for a great ride. This book is geared towards geeks, lovers of tech, and video games.

I loved how well the author Nick Cole made me feel like I was with a character inside a video game. I also loved all the really cool futuristic technology in this book. Tons of cool ideas that were fun to read about.

The ending was very satisfying. The more of this book I read the more I enjoyed it.

The Coffee Legacy by Katharina Bordet

Download the .mp3

In this 38th episode I review The Coffee Legacy by Katharina Bordet. I loved this book. It has awesome fantasy elements in a modern setting. That modern setting is also in traditional Viennese cafe culture, so for a coffee lover I was totally in from page one. Listen to hear why I gave this great book with rich characters 5/5 stars.

Wrong Side of Hell by Sonya Bateman | Book Review

This was a really fun book. A man who makes a living transporting dead bodies, who sometimes seem to talk to him, discovers there is a whole other world filled with dark magical creatures. He also discovers that he is part of their world as much as he'd like to remain just a lonely body mover who lives in his van. This book was an amazing page turner. I was hooked from page one and was not disappointed until I finished the last chapter. Oh man was this book awesome.

I loved the main character. His attitude when facing off against the supernatural creatures in the book was surprising and awesome. He was often understandably scared of them but would also sometimes get angry at them and give it right back to them after they kept threatening him simply because he was a human.

The story world of this book is really cool. It's modern day but all of the dark creatures of myths and legends exist. Discovering this dark magic underground world with the main character was really cool.

There were tons of awesome fight scenes in this book and they could get pretty gruesome. They were really exciting and the author always did a good job of having the good guys leave a fight with a lot of damage that many times really slowed them down or even took them out of commission for a while. Everything cost a lot in this book. Nothing was easy for the characters. I think that's one of the reasons the book was so good. It was a blast cheering for the characters as they fought a very dark evil.

I loved the way the magic worked in this book. It was amazing and could do incredible things, but it always took a lot out of the characters and once they used their magic a little bit it was all they had and their "spark" was spent until they recharged it. That part made the magic feel so much more real than if the characters would of had an unending supply of magic to wield. Then everything would have been easy for them and the way everything went down in the story would have been much less believable or the way they could have accomplished their goals would have been a lot more boring to read because it would have been so easy for them.

The author did a great job of making everything hard for the characters. They had to push themselves to their limits to achieve their goals. They had to get creative and think on their feet. They got beat up, really bad, lots of times. All these things and the wonder of all the cool magical world made for one thrilling read. I can't wait to see what these crazy characters are up to in the next book. I'm so glad I picked this one up.

Gardening For Beginners by Dahlia Rose | Book Review

I had the pleasure of narrating the audiobook version of this book. It's clear prose made for an easy job. I learned a lot and for anyone looking to dip their toes into gardening, or should I say green their thumb, this is a great book. I loved the energy and positive fun attitude in the writing. You can tell the author has a love for gardening herself. Great enjoyable read packed with tons of great info to get you started in the world of gardening.
